Perseverance

This might just become one of my favorite words. I looked it up a few weeks ago because it was playing around and around in my mind, and I was surprised to see that the little handy bar on the side of my dictionary that tells how well known a word is registered this word as "Few People would know this word". I thought this was so sad! What a word to have missing from your vocabulary, from your mind, from your life!

It's not just a steady persistence, or a "keep at it" mentality... it's a resolution, a mindset that says "I'm not going to quit" even when difficulties, obstacles, and discouragement come. It's not always easy to persevere. There are so many aspects of life where one must persevere and it can be hard! But that's what makes perseverance such a powerful thing.

The Bible was translated into English for the commoner through perseverance. The American Revolution was won through perseverance. The West was tamed through perseverance. Missions across the world only continues through perseverance. It's a constant decision to persevere. Will you persevere, even in the littlest things?

Let me know in the comments below what one of your favorite motivating words is!

Persevere is a really great word. Thank you for researching it a bit and sharing about it :)
I love a lot of different words so I am not sure I could come up with a "favorite" motivating word... I like the words conquer and diligence!

Please God, I will!

I don't think I have a favorite motivating word really. . . I read in a book of speech a made-up speech about poetry. The speaker enumerates words that are beautiful in SOUND (Melody, vermillion, troubadour) and in MEANING (mother, father, love, God). Then he says the most beautiful word in the English language is ——. The book than says, “What word is it? Think about it. Who are we to spoil your fun?” What do you think? I can't really pick one out! :D

How interesting, Katja! I really like the word 'invincible'. Not only is the meaning encouraging (to me at least) but I think it sounds nice too. :)

Cool! I never thought of that. My mama likes ‘compassion’. I'm not sure. . . I think certain dress fabrics, like ‘voile’ have such a nice FEEL to them. . . that one in particular feels cool and veil-y and. . . you know! And ‘silk’. . . ‘velvet’. . . ‘satin’. . . don't they feel so RICH?

PS: I have a funny story to go with ‘invincible’. We four oldests have a game called “Submarines”. We play it on the trampoline. We have two balls representing the German and Canadian Navy (WWII). We are independent ships, and try not to get “sunk” by the Germans. At first I called my ship the ‘Unsinkable’. Well, I was the first sunk. So after the ‘Unsinkable II’ (I think) was sunk again, I gave up and called it the ‘Invincible’. By the time the ‘Invincible II’, the ‘Victory’, and I think another like name (‘Ironside’?) was sunk, I gave up and just called it a neutral name like ‘Sir William Wallace’ and ‘Lady Marion Wallace’. :) Now I'm not sure if I got the names in the right order, or if I had the 2nds, but I know that the ‘Invincible’ and the ‘Unsinkable’ were vanquished and sunk!! ;P
