**Psst! If you're on Bloglovin, you can now follow this blog on there! :) **
I let out a breath, watching it turn silver against the black of the night. Lifting my eyes my gaze fastens on a glowing star.
It's so beautiful.
And for a moment, I am transported back hundreds of years.
How can I describe something with such meaning? I have tried to put it into words, only to realize each time that it is impossible.
Could the shepherds tell when they looked down on The Baby that the hand that curled around His mother's thumb was the same hand that etched in stone the ten commandments? Did they know that the eyes that saw them in their rough field clothes were the same ones that watched as the earth came into existence?
Or the wisemen, when they came... and heard His playful chatter-- how could they have known it was the same still, quiet voice that spoke to Elijah after the whirlwind? That the Baby who heard their foreign tongues is the same One who hears and understands every person in the world who speaks to Him in prayer?
How can one fathom such powerful love? It is more than wonderful, it is the reason for everything wonderful.
And looking up at the stars on Christmas Eve, I can only think... that One, Jesus, who was once alive... He is still alive! The heart that beat with pure love that night so long ago is the One that is still full of mercy today. The hand that went from holding His mother's, to being pierced with a nail-- it is the same hand that guides me daily. He lives.
So when I open my mouth to speak, may it be the words of Jesus. When I look at others, may I look with love. When I incline my ear to hear, may I hear with compassion. When I reach out a hand to someone else, may they feel His touch through me.
Because being in the spirit of Christmas?
It really means being in the spirit of Christ.
